A bit brain-stuck: please send help, and brain-grease.

Posted by Anna as the evening progresses on January 18, 2011

So I was making a list of things to write about last night, and then discovered I was going round in circles

If anyone has a question, you could put it in the comments, so I could answer each in a separate post?

No more than two questions per person? (Of which I might only answer one). They don’t have to be ABOUT ME, either, at all, really. Just anything. On as random or as diverse a topic as you might like. Or not-a-question. Just a title. Whatever, really.

I can’t promise to do them quickly, but if it gives me something to do in my not-work moments this week, restarts my brain a bit and means that I can write on this here blog of mine, I would be very happy and grateful.

SO. Anyone?

Questions? Titles? Thoughts to riff on? Words? Requests? Or, basically, Questions?
Any questions?

  1. What one thing can’t you quit but you know you really should…

I also second the tatoo request.

  12. I first thought this said Brain-GEESE rather than GREASE. So I suggest you write about brain-geese. I’m not sure whether they are nice, idea-finding avian friends or evil grey-matter munching fowls - your call.

  14. Dear Anna,

I’m reasonably cultured, despite appearances. I know a fair bit about most forms of music and whether I’m ‘into’ a particular genre or not, I appreciate its worth. Theatre, cinema, lovely; when I’m in London you’ll often find me wandering around the National Gallery; the South Bank Centre was a regular destination for me when I lived in London.

My point is that even where a major artform doesn’t particularly float my boat, I hope that I am open-minded and rational enough to know that this is just my subjective opinion, and that I can respect it without being ‘a fan.’

The exception to this is ballet, which to me is a ridiculous parade of grotesque hoofery. I went to see the ballet a couple of times. Some of the music was wonderful, of course, but otherwise it was both boring and utterly worthless as anything other than a demonstration of technical physical attainment. I would rather watch the women’s shot put than another ballet.

So for ballet, I have been through the ‘it is probably just me’ thing, but come out the other side and concluded ‘no. I am right.’

Is there any artform - an established and critically accepted one - that provokes a similar reaction?

  15. If you could draw up a soundtrack to your life, what would it consist of?

  16. You’ve moved house so many times that you must have gained some house-moving insight along the way.

    So . . . how about . . .

Leave a comment. Go on. Leave one. You know you want to.
And be nice. In general. And don't be spam, because that's rubbish.
And don't be a pendantiatrist either: It's dull. Yes, sometimes I can't spell. I'll get over it. So will you.
