Tonight, a very important thing happened. The country where I now live elected themselves a president who, frankly, I wouldn’t kick out of bed for eating biscuits (and who also seems like a nice man and (hopefully) a good president. Though frankly he’d have to poo diamonds to be as good as people are currently expecting, but that is a conversation for another day and another place) and it was exciting, and brilliant and yay.
At the moment we don’t know how ‘Prop 8′ might turn out, which would see gay marriage banned in california only 6 months after it was legalised, and would be a travesty, but we can only knock on wood and wait. And frankly I wasn’t allowed to vote for that either, so what am I going to do about it?
Most importantly I, someone who couldn’t vote and therefore didn’t make history in any way, shape or form today, decided to make little.red.boat history by publishing a cute video of my cat.
By the time this video was taken, Widget had been trying to catch the same shard of light reflecting through the blinds for about ten minutes.
She’s a very VERY special cat.
In the sense of ’special bus’ special, yes.

Bless. Cats are just cute generally. And not presidential at all.
(And by the way - do you know if Clive for Nothing is writing anything new since kitchen table?)

Get yourself a laser pointer (Bobbie probably has one, right?).
Then you’ll see just how dementedly “special” Widget is (bet not as “special” as our cat, he spends 10 minutes hunting for the light AFTER it’s been turned off…)

Oh, we have one. Widget goes crazy for the noise of key rings now because it happens to be attached to one. But it’s too hot to play with that, still, because she goes MENTAL For it, they both do. The reflected light we can do nothing about, however.

“…wouldn’t kick out of bed for eating biscuits”.
Hahaha. A great phrase which I hadn’t heard since I worked with an Irishman in 1973. I’d always assumed it was unique to him.

That is awesome possum. :)

Love it! Sometimes my days feel JUST like that…..I know how the cat feels!

Supercute! And I loved the eating biscuits phrase too… I shall be looking for an opportunity to use it!

Prop 8 is giving me serious collywobbles in the tummy. WHY people? WHY??
Thank you for soothing the mention with a slightly manic kitty. Furry things do help.
Comment by Megan — 5 November, 2008 7:21 am
ROFL! WHY on EARTH does she keep trying to elbow or shoulder it to death? That’s hilarious; I’ve never seen a cat do that - and I have four at the moment!

patented Widget slide there, very good, very good!
We used to amuse our Bobbins (not your Bobbins, that would be confusing) with watch reflections and she would run so much her paw pads would sweat! And we never knew that cats could sweat…!
Widget looks like our Bobbins too - it’s all very confusing.

Is this like The Emperor’s New Cat Video? I can’t see it! To me it just looks like a big black square. Is it just a close up of Widget’s face and that’s why it’s funny?

Ah the darling silly cat! Cuteness!
Comment by Pigwotflies — 5 November, 2008 10:54 am
I love how she’s giving it lots of careful consideration and trying to come up with a good method of catching that light, and then going “nah, if I do this enough times it’ll work”.
Comment by Rachel — 5 November, 2008 11:05 am
love the nonchalant ‘walk off as if she meant to death slide across the carpet just like that all along..’
Comment by felicity b — 5 November, 2008 12:38 pm
I was hoping for her to talk, to see if she brought her British accent along as well.
Comment by JoeInVegas — 5 November, 2008 2:15 pm
She has excellent technique.
Comment by Miss T — 5 November, 2008 2:42 pm
HA! I have a cat that would do that.
I do love the patented Widget “slide into home*” manoeuvre. Very suave!

Thanks for posting this video. It was a good day for it.

Crazy dog + flashlight being waved around at the floor = hilarity. Especially when it’s not carpet but tiles.. he skitters around a LOT.
Comment by Alison — 6 November, 2008 1:59 am
It’s hilarious how she thinks that sliding the soft side of her body on it will flatten it to death! Lovely!

..”wouldn’t kick out of bed for eating biscuits” is a damn site nicer than the version my friend Paul used during my formative years.
He had a fart system (sorry, am I lowering the tone?). An OK looking girl wouldn’t be kicked out of bed for farting, but a stunner would be credited with a 4, 5, once even 9 fart allowance. Good measuring stick that.
Although hardly complementary when a girl walked past and he would mutter; “Two trumpers plus a silent but deadly”.

I love cats, they can be so funny sometimes. My old cat, who died recently, did not like you to laugh at him. He would glare at me, stick his nose in the air, and walk haughtily to the cat flap and promptly trip over the step, causing me laugh even more.
There’s a video of Tink the kitten on my page just here. Tink was not my cat, his name was Sooty; guess why!

Tag, you’re it. (Sounds like you and Petite had a good time together.)

Cute kitty. But what made me laugh is that I have the same rug (IKEA, right?) in my dining room as well.
Comment by EB — 12 November, 2008 1:50 pm
That is absolutely hilarious, and I have seen cats do some funny things. If she ever needs to be kept company let me know, I’d be delighted! (There’s that exclamation point.) This is me: http://www.yelp.com/biz/tales-of-the-kitty-san-francisco

Shelly - I may take you up on that if My Beloved and I have to be away at the same time - I’m Very anxious and attached to her and her bigger, slightly more intelligent sister (thus dragging them 5000 miles rather than give them away, it would have broken my heart) so was worried about whether we’d ever be able to find someone and go away on holiday together again. So yay, I may give you a call sometime - your reviews are brilliant!

Damnit, I joined you in exclamation-ville.

I know exactly how you feel. I’d cut my arm off before I give up my furry little children. :-)
